Hi All,
As mentioned in my previous post, see link below, this will be the
start of me writing a breakdown of each episode of Digimon Tamers and
the differences between the Japanese/English/Manga version of this
season.

I will also make cute little title cards like this one for fun's sake,
hopefully I captured Takato's drawing style with this one as well : D
Anyway on to the breakdown.
Digimon Tamers Episode 2: Digimon, Digimon Everywhere
Japanese title: Kimi wa Boku no Tomodachi Teriamon Tōjō!
( Japanese: 君はぼくのともだち テリアモン登場!)
( English: You're my Friend! Terriermon appears ! )
Japanese air date: April 8, 2001
English air date: September 1, 2001
Episode breakdown:
Takato
is scared that Guilmon will attack him however this doesn’t turn out to
be the case as Guilmon recognizes Takato as his maker.
Takato then
tries to secretly sneak Guilmon into his house in a cardboard box and
once in Takato’s room Takato teaches Guilmon that not everything is a
Digimon, he shows this by putting on his goggles and explains to him
that he is a Tamer.
Meanwhile we see Hypnos tracking another wild one, they try to launch the Tracer program but fail to delete the wild one.
While Takato and Guilmon are sleeping his dad enters the room to check
on his son and he thinks that Takato brought home a stray animal, he
asks his wife if they can keep it but she refuses because of their work
schedule in the bakery and also because it isn’t hygienic.
In the
meantime a couple at the park are noticing a digital field appearing and
Rika runs towards it, with Renamon by her side she then orders her to
defeat the Goblimon.
While the couple are making out Calumon
appears and asks them what they were doing, the couple freaks out and
run away in fear, after that Calumon’s mark starts to glow as he runs
towards the digital field.
Renamon asks Rika to use an option card to help her, but Goblimon then Digivolves into Fugamon.
Meanwhile Guilmon notices the fight between the 2 Digimon and wakes up
which also wakes up Takato, the later reassures him that there is
nothing outside.
Renamon then defeats the Fugamon and loads his data.
While Takato leaves for school the next morning he sneaks the day old
bread with him while his parents tell him that he can’t keep a stray pet
at home, he seems to have done this before in the past but he tells his
mother that an older lady in the park was the one who has given him a
cat at the time. He then takes Guilmon with the cardboard box to an
alleyway to hide him from other people, he also shows Guilmon how to eat
as he hasn’t done that before and promises him that he will come back
after school is over.
Takato then meets up with Kazu and Kenta and
the Dinosaur place, and Kazu asks why Takato is wearing Goggles, which
Takato responds with that it’s his first day as a Digimon Tamer.
Takato checks his card box again and sees that the blue card is still
gone, all 3 then run off to school for their gym class while Guilmon
secretly follows behind them.
Takato notices the cardboard box during his gym class.
Meanwhile Guilmon is looking for Takato at his school and scares both a
teacher and the principal, the later whom rings the fire alarm in fear
of his life.
Takato is then urgently looking for Guilmon, also
finding out that he has eaten all the cafeteria bread, but meets Henry
and his digimon Terriermon instead, Terriermon then tells him that he
has no right to be a Tamer if he and his partner don’t have an
understanding towards each other.
Takato then thinks that he is
right and that he isn't worthy of having Guilmon, but figures out
quickly that Guilmon most likely is on the roof looking up at the sky,
he then asks Guilmon to stay there until school is over and that they
will play after.
Later that day they are looking for a place for Guilmon to stay, but Takato and Guilmon are then attacked by Renamon and Rika.
Character appearance for this episode in order:
Takato Matsuki-Guilmon- Father Takehiro Matsuki-Mother Yoshie Matsuki- Yamaki Mitsuo-Riley Ohtori-Tally Onodera- Rika Nonaka-Renamon-Calumon-Kazu Shioda- Kenta Kitagawa-Teacher Nami Asaji-Jeri Katou- Principal Kurosawa Seiji-Terriermon-Henry Wong
Differences between the Japanese and English version:
Plot/story/Terminology ( English/Japanese );
*NA-
The Radio mentions in the beginning of the episode that the computer
network systems are malfunctioning throughout the day again, suggesting
this happens often because of wild one realizing.
*Hyper chip activate - Boost chip, Power 10 % up
*System
crash card - Emergency program halt ( cancels opponents modification,
Kazu uses this card while playing a game with Kenta )
*Kazu calls Takato Yolei when Takato shows up with his goggles ( character from Digimon adventure 02 ) – NA
*Takato refers to himself that he might be a Digidestined because he found the blue card – NA
*Kazu refers to Takato as chumley – NA
*Guilmon has eaten all the cafeteria food – Guilmon has only eaten the bread and nothing else.
Digimon Tamers Manga differences:
*Takato decides to put on the goggles and calls himself the leader because it worked for Tai on TV.
*Both Henry and Terriermon seem to be a lot nicer to him compared to
the show, and it was Henry’s idea to hide Guilmon in the shed at the
park instead of Takato’s.
*Takato asks Henry if Terriermon can
speak Chinese, to which Henry responds that it’s Cantonese, but that
Terriermon can only say Momentai and nothing else, which he finds it
lame.
*Guilmon asks where he can poo ( this is never mentioned in
the TV show which is funny since in the early Digimon games ( V-pets and
Digimon World 1 ) you had to make sure to clean the Digimons poop or
make sure that they could go to the bathroom. ) The manga actually will
reference Digimon having to poop a couple more times after this.
*Instead of being attacked at the park by Rika and Renamon, they instead lure him towards the garage from Episode 3.
My opinion:
A good second episode, these were the early episodes that I liked most
since it really plays with the idea that this is what a kid would do if
he ended up having a real Digimon, and the shenanigans that would ensue
because of that.
Again the English version stays very faithful to
the Japanese version for this episode, even adding some things like Kazu
referring to Takato as chumley to show their friendship. I also liked
how the dub kept referring to the previous Digimon series as a TV show,
which also plays into the what if Digimon were real in our world thing
they have going on, loved that.
The more funny dialogue in the dub
also doesn’t feel out of place and makes the episode more light hearted,
compared to the serious tone that the original is going for. I really
recommend watching both in this case since while it’s the same story,
they both give it their own original spin on things.
The OST used in
both versions is different ( obviously ) but they each fit their
respective version and it doesn't feel out of place.
Well that's it for the second episode breakdown, stay tuned for more tomorrow : )
And don't forget if you have any questions feel free to ask.
See ya all next time.
