Hi All,

If you want to be up to date on what this is about, please go to the below link where I explain everything, well mostly everything.

Anyway here we have Jeri's reference sheet.

Oh where do I even begin with Jeri.
She really is that one character that you learn to love as you grow up I suppose, as I really didn't like her very much as a child, but now that I'm older I'm sooo disappointed that we didn't get to see more of her in the show.
Her backstory is very interesting, while the creators of Tamers had her in mind as the everyday girl she did come of as quite quirky/ slightly creepy even from the beginning of the series ( but again her backstory explains why she is so and it really ads to the now it all makes sense moment ), she is quite a girly girl but not so much in an annoying kind of way ( like Mimi often was in adventure ), and let's not forget the clusterfuck that is the entire D-Reaper saga.

Also can I just say that Jeri is more comparable to Shinji Ikari than even Takato is.
Being the big Evangelion geek that I am ( I only watched it 2 years ago and I regret deeply not watching it waaay sooner ) I can immediately tell that Tamers, as many people already have pointed out, really is the Evangelion for kids version.
Not only is Konaka a big Evangelion and Lovecraftian fan ( it really shows in his works if you ask me, especially so in Tamers ) but the fact that he uses so many of the elements from those franchises in Tamers is just pure perfection in my opinion. And it especially shows so when you look at Jeri personally.
From her not having a mom, to her having a cold and distant ( perhaps abusive father ), afraid of being alone to the point of pleasing people as much as possible even when the things other people like isn't something she was interested in before ( like her suddenly liking Digimon and buying all the expensive cards because others do so too ), thinking of herself as a horrible person, wanting to commit suicide numerous times ( first time when she tried to kill herself shortly after Leomons death when she supposedly tried to fall in the chaos pit, of course this failed and the D-Reaper took her captive instead and send out a copy in her place with the other tamers, the other time was when she was inside the D-reaper and she literally now said that it would be better if she were dead because people suffer because of her )
And let's not forget that while she was in the kernel after Beelzemon failed to get her out ( because she denied his help for obvious emotional reasons, I hated it then but I do respect that the writers didn't let Beelzemon save Jeri at the time ) she then saw those metal plates hit Beelzemon in his back, which wounded him so bad that he was dying on the spot, and Jeri seeing this ( while not seeing him barely surviving as he Dedigivolved back into Impmon ) literally broke her mental state at that point as she now blamed herself again for another death ( this was basically the Shinji breakdown moment in End of Evangelion when he saw what happened to Asuka )

Also I would like to mention here that the forgiveness scene at the end of the series where she forgives Impmon makes actual sense, hear me out. So think about this, she just escaped the D-Reaper and then Impmon shows up ( while she assumed that he had died at the time, since no one bothered to tell her that he was actually alive ) she probably thinks that Impmon is angry at her for almost killing him while he tried to save her, and here he is asking for her forgiveness for what he has done. Being so relieved that not only he is alive, but that he actually apologizes for what he has done, makes her accept his apology. Also please keep in mind that here she is forgiving Impmon, and not Beelzemon who actually murdered and Loaded Leomon, there is some nuance here I want to believe that it would be easier for her to forgive Impmon since he was not the only technically who has wronged her but Beelzemon is.
While they are the same person, and for Digimon I don't think that they distinguish between different forms, I would think that a still emotionally broken girl ( which she is at that point ) would think to herself that they are a different person, and if he would show up as his original mega form ( not his blast mode form ) that she would still be at the very least frightened by his appearance and all the horrible memories would come back all at once ( drama would ensue lol )

Honestly at this point I could get into every little detail of Jeri's character ( and by extension Impmon as well ), but that would take forever lol, and I'll probably speak up about it in the episode reviews anyway so I'll leave it here for now.

Anyway stay tuned for tomorrows post, and don't forget if you have any questions feel free to ask.

See ya all next time.
