Hi All,
If
you want to be up to date on what this is about, please go to the below
link where I explain everything, well mostly everything.
As for the rest of you, here we have Impmon's reference sheet.
Ah Impmon, where do I even begin.
He
is by far my most favorite Digimon to date, heck he is even the most
fleshed out character in the entire Digimon franchise in my opinion, and
that's saying a lot considering that he is not only a Digimon but that
he is also a secondary character in Digimon Tamers.
It's
funny to think that at one point WiZ (leaders of the Digimon project )
wanted Impmon to be Takato's Digimon partner, but that it was Chiaki J.
Konaka ( the director of Digimon Tamers ) that was pushing for a more
innocent Digimon like Guilmon. I think that this was a great choice on
their part, but one does wonder what could have been had Impmon been
Takato's partner instead.
I really love Impmon
design too, from his cutesy devilish appearance to the red gloves and
bandana that he's wearing, to the evil smiley face on his belly.
However what I do dislike is the partner(s) that Konaka chose for Impmon.
The
idea was initially great, showing that humans could be cruel and awful
to their Digimon partner and what results that would have on the
Digimon, even the multiple partners idea was great too.
What I do find a missed opportunity however is that they decided to give Impmon much younger Tamers instead of older kids/teens.
Let
me explain, so we have Impmon which by no means is a dumb Digimon ( he
ends up doing stupid things yes, and is canonically illiterate ) but
let's not forget that Impmon most definitely has a lot of street smarts.
He can fend for himself and he must have been at least somewhat crafty
to survive the Digital world long enough to end up in the Real world, he
isn't strong ( at least not in Tamers as a rookie ) so you can't say
that he survived by brute strength like Renamon and Leomon did. So he
must be somewhat intelligent right.
Now explain
to me how Impmon cannot distinguish that two twins that are around the
age of 4 are of the same mental capacity as the other Tamers who are
around the age of 10-12
I can understand that Impmon would
distrust humans to some extend after experiencing abuse from the young
kids that he ended up with, but after seeing that the other Tamers
treated their Digimon with care, friendship and respect, that he would
still hold that same mindset. Honestly he should have just cut his
losses and looked for a different partner instead.
But
I do guess that he is called literally a lonely Digimon for a reason,
however if I had my way I would have done things differently that would
actually justify him hating humans more and that his path for power will
actually make much more sense than what the show ended up doing.
So
this is what I would have done, when Impmon realized into the Real
world the first people that he would have met would be a group of older
teens around 16 years ( could be a group of two or three, so a small
street gang )
They see the potential a Digimon would bring
them, especially someone like Impmon, and they decide to use him for
their own personal benefit, like having him steal things unnoticed and
the like ( small petty crimes )
Impmon however sees that he is
treated as lesser ( because he isn't stupid ) and demands at least some
respect and that they see him as a partner and not as an object to use.
The
teens obviously don't care as they see him as an animal instead of a
person, so Impmon then says that if they don't start treating him with
respect that he will leave the gang and go his own way.
The
gang obviously don't like this and start to threaten him, Impmon is
trying to defend himself, which makes the gang extremely angry, but he
gets overpowered by them and they start to beat him senseless.
Eventually they drop him off somewhere like a beaten and broken puppy to die as they have no further use for him.
And
then we have a Digimon hurt by older kids seeing the Tamers even if
they act kindly now with their Digimon, he will now think that all
humans will end growing up into the same awful people as the teens that
he was with.
Now his disdain and confusion towards the
Tamers makes more sense, and him asking the Digimon to leave their
Tamers will have a bigger meaning to it as well.
His desire
for power and to be treated with respect will make more sense too,
especially after the beatdown from Indramon and then when he is again
all beaten and broken being offered the chance to digivolve on his own
by the Deva ( even more so if Chatsuramon will show either a vision of
the Tamers being the same as the teens he met or a vision of the teens
themselves hurting him )
It also makes sense for Chatsuramon to actually employ Impmon this time around since Chatsuramon sees Impmon as the product of how disgusting the Human race is, as the Deva's and the Sovereign Zhuqiaomon hate them with a passion after seeing how far humans would go to torture and kill Digimon.
And
then you have a Beelzemon that actually makes sense, even more when the
person who he hurts most ( Jeri in this case ) spares his life when
Takato was about to murder him.
Now his depression and
attempted suicide ( yeah he really tried to kill himself by letting the
Chrysalimon attack him ) make much more sense as he now views himself as
the exact same or even worse of a monster than the people that have
hurt him.
And him trying to save Jeri would be
all the more tragic too, since he now really found the power within
himself in order to save her, but because of the hurt he caused her that
she was too afraid and emotionally broken to be saved by him.
It would make the moment more bitter sweet between them at the end as well when he would ask for her forgiveness.
But
then again that is what my take on him would have been if I had any say
in the matter ( potential spoilers for the comic/ manga much haha )
But more on that later of course : )
Anyway stay tuned for tomorrows post, and don't forget if you have any questions feel free to ask.
See ya all next time.
