Wow, another episode breakdown in less than 1 week, don't get used to it tho ^^;
Episode 6 of the anime, not only does it introduce my favorite character in the series, Impmon obviously, but it also has Rika's backstory on how she became a Tamer and Renamon's first Digivolution.

Also I have to say that this title card came out really well, and it's my favorite one so far.
Hope you guys like this one too.

Anyway on to the breakdown.

Digimon Tamers Episode 6: O Partner, Where Art Thou ?

--Episode breakdown: Japanese version

The episode starts with a small recap of the previous episode when Rika and Renamon arrived just in time before Vilemon could attack the others.
They defeated Vilemon and Renamon loaded his data.
The voiceover mentions that Rika treats Renamon with indifference and nothing more than a fighting machine.

When we start the episode proper we see Rika at her school, the Kagurazaka Girls Academy, it's parents day and all the parents are standing behind at the back of the room watching their kids.
The girls in class gossip who the much younger person in the back could be, and someone mentions that she's a model and Rika's mother.
Rika pays attention in class but could care less, she opens her pencil box and there's a mirror and she sees her mother smile and wave at her, but her cell phone rings and she runs out of the room.
Her mom runs out of school due to her job, in the classroom Rika knows she isn't coming back and shuts the case.

After school we see Rika walking home, as she flashes back, we see her practicing her strategy for the Digimon card game in her room.
Her mother checks on her and asks if she is playing with tarot cards, and she is happy for her daughter that she is enthusiastic about something.
She hopes that Rika will figure out early what she wants to do with her life, much like herself.
Once her mother leaves Rika sighs with relief.

After the flashback, Rika notices a digital field and runs straight home to change from her school uniform to her regular outfit.
After taking her deck and her D-ark, she calls upon Renamon who appears in her room from the shadows.
She then runs outside again and passes her grandmother in the living room, who wonders if it's a good idea for a girl like her to act like this.
She asks Rika not to stay out too late, and she replies that she knows.
Rika asks what's for dinner and her grandmother says that she'll make deep-fried chicken gizzards.

Meanwhile at Guilmon's shed Takato, Henry, Guilmon and Terriermon are playing a rock-paper-scissors, and Guilmon loses due to him only able to play paper because of his claws. The others tease Guilmon, who is the loser, to look into the direction they are pointing.
Each are pointing in different directions, this causes Guilmon to become so dizzy that he falls down.
Both Digimon then sense a Digimon nearby, and Guilmon directly runs towards it.

We see that Rika has arrived at the scene, with Renamon facing an Allomon.
Rika scans his information with her Digivice and tells Renamon to attack him.
Renamon kicks him in the face, and the second time she tries she is swept away by Allomon's large tail.
Rika uses a YukiAgumon Frozen Wind card, and Renamon uses this attack in a blast struggle with Allomon's own fire attack.
Rika wonders out loud why Renamon isn't winning, and at that moment his fire overpowers her ice and she gets knocked away into a pole and falls down while he moves in.
Rika demands Renamon to Digivolve and asks why she won't.

Guilmon arrives and uses a Pyro Sphere while Terriermon uses his Terrier Tornado attack against the Allomon, knocking him away from Renamon.
Rika sees Takato and Henry arrive and tells them that the Allomon is hers and for them to not interfere in the fight.
Takato is shocked and Henry asks her why she forces her Digimon to fight so much.
She answers that Digimon are only meant for fighting, and she uses another card Devil Chip.

Renamon gets up and tells the other Digimon to stand aside.
She uses the Frozen Wind attack combined with her power up from the Devil Chip card and completely overpowers Allomon this time.
She loads his data after using her Diamond Storm attack on him.

Rika tells Renamon that they are leaving and Takato stops her.
She tells them that she doesn't need them or anyone else to help her, that Renamon was enough for that battle.
Henry says that she is pretty confident about herself, and she then leaves.
Impmon then appears on top of a streetlight close by the others, talking to himself what a bunch of idiots the others are.
Muttering what's so interesting about Digimon living with humans, and that being a Digimon is a lot more fun.

Later that evening Rika is standing in her backyard close to a pond with Renamon on top of their roof close by.
She says that if Renamon was able to Digivolve, that she would have won, Renamon responds that that's true.
Rika questions then why she hasn't yet, and Renamon tells her that she is waiting for the right moment.
Rika tells her that they would have defeated Allomon much faster is she had Digivolved, Renamon apologizes but before she can say more she disappears back to the shadows when she hears Rika's mom coming home.

Later that night while lying in bed, Rika wonders why Renamon won't Digivolve.
Meanwhile Renamon is walking along streetpole electricity cables in the city.

Rika then flashes back to when she competed and won the Digital Monster D-1 Grand Prix Card Tournament.
The commentator asks her if she met any worthy opponents, and Rika coldly answers that she met none.
Back at home after winning the tournament, she says how bored she is, then the sliding doors to her room suddenly close by themselves.
An eerie aura suddenly appears in her room, and her card scanner starts glowing.
The glow from the scanner turns into 3 large glowing screens in front of Rika.
Various shadows of Digimon appear on the screens and they say that they found the Digimon Queen.
They are begging her to make them stronger, make them Digivolve and to be their Tamer.
They start reaching out to her from the screens and Rika backs away in complete fear.
She yells that she only wants one strong Digimon to be with her, and a blue card appears, the card glows and Renamon is seen in the distance coming closer towards Rika.
Before Renamon manages to appear all 3 screens disappear from Rika's room.
Rika then uses the blue card on her scanner, which then transforms into a blue and white colored D-ark.
It starts to glow and Rika closes her eyes and silently makes a wish, once she opens them Renamon is now standing in her room.
Renamon tells her that a really strong Digimon, would be her.

The flashback ends and we see Renamon still walking around the city, apologizing to Rika and that she will definitely Digivolve.
Later Renamon is sitting on a telephone wire, thinking to herself that once she defeats a strong Digimon and loads his data, that she will then Digivolve.
That this is the only way.
Renamon then is suddenly ambushed by the newcomer, Impmon, asking her why she's so upset.
He tells her that he recognizes her as one of the Digimon being " raised " by a human, and because of that she can't do anything by herself without the help of someone else.

At this exact moment Rika wakes up due to her Digivices signal, and she asks out loud where Renamon is and if she's even there.
But because Renamon's with Impmon, Rika is able to scan Impmon's information with her D-Ark.
She wonders who Impmon is.

Meanwhile Renamon asks if Impmon is partnerless.
Impmon tells her that she's correct, and that unlike her, he can do things on his own without the help of humans.
He asks what she thinks of that, and if she wants to be just like him.
Renamon remains silent, and after a few seconds he asks if she's listening.
He goes on that as long as she's listening to him that it's fine, and he goes on by saying how pathetic Digimon are that are being kept by humans.
Renamon asks why pathetic, and he responds that she and the other Digimon are totally shameless, and that them being pathetic pisses him off.
He asks if it pisses her of too, and then quickly adds if she even knows what that means.
He says that it makes him feel nasty, annoys him to the point of him wanting to puke.
Renamon stands up and tells him that she can't understand what he even is talking about.
He yells after her what gives, and where's she even going.
He tells her to wait and that he'll give it to her straight, and that if it were up to him that this is what Digimon like her would get as he trows his Badda-Boom attack at her.
The attack surprises Renamon and when she turns back to him, he yells from a distance that living like a pet to the humans is stupid, and that there is no point to it at all.
At that exact moment a Digital field appears in the distance.

Meanwhile at Hypnos Riley tells Yamaki that they found another wild one.
Tally tells them that it's realizing.

We then see Rika running down the street towards the Digital field, she's questioning if Renamon is already there, thinking that she may be fighting the Impmon she saw earlier.
Once she enters the Digital field she sees that the whole area is covered in large cobwebs.
Renamon then yells for Rika to run, and pushes her to the side before the Dokugumon is able to hit her with her attack.
She asks if Rika is alright, and they both turn towards the Dokugumon.
Rika then scans the Dokugumon's information with her Digivice, and Renamon tells her to leave it to her and jumps towards the other Digimon.
She prepares her Diamond Storm attack, but the web catches her attack and disintegrates it instead.
Dokugumon then uses her Venom Blast attack, trapping Renamon in her web.
Rika tries to run towards her, and Renamon yells at her to not come any closer.
Dokugumon then uses her web to trap Rika as well, and jumps towards her while Rika watches in fear.
She silently begs for Renamon to safe her, and Renamon while still trapped uses her Diamond Storm.
The Dokugumon jumps away and the attack ends up hitting Rika, but it destroys the web that is keeping Rika trapped and leaving her unharmed.
Rika realizes that Renamon did that to safe her.
Dokugumon then turns towards Renamon, and Renamon tells Rika that this is her chance to run away.
She says that she can't do that, and uses Snimon Twin Sickles attack card.
This transforms Renamon's arms into Snimon's blades, which she uses to free herself, then immediately attacks Dokugumon.
Dokugumon knocks the attack away with her head and jumps towards Renamon biting her entire midsection as she screams in horrible pain.
Dokugumon then trows her to the side and tries to attack Rika, but Renamon jumps in front of her to block the attack with her body to protect her.
Rika asks Renamon why, and she says because she's her partner, as she collapses.
Rika worriedly catches her.
Calumon then steps closer, his headcrest glowing.
Renamon begs Rika to hurry and run away, and Rika tells her to hang in there.
Renamon tries to warn her again but ends up fainting, and Rika yells for her.
At this moment her Digivice starts glowing, while a glow surrounds Renamon as well.
Renamon then Digivolves to Kyubimon, Dokugumon tries to attack them again but Kyubimon uses her Foxtail Inferno attack.
This causes the webs to catch fire, Kyubimon then jumps after the fleeing Dokugumon and then uses her Dragon Wheel attack and destroys Dokugumon.
Kyubimon then loads the Digimon's data as Rika watches in amazement and the Digital field disappears.

Once back at Rika's side Kyubimon tells Rika that she manged to Digivolve, and Rika nods enthusiastically.
She says that this is the Digivolution, that they have both wished for, and Rika again nods in agreement.
We see Impmon sitting in a tree closeby, commenting that this scene is what makes him so sick and jumps away.
Rika tells Kyubimon that she saved her life, and she responds that it's because Rika is her partner.
Kyubimon asks her if she understands what that means.

The episode ends with Rika telling her that she does understand, but only a little.

She hopes that Rika will start thinking about what she wants to do with her life, and that fame and fortune awaits.
Once her mother leaves Rika sighs with relief.

After the flashback, Rika thinks that she knows what she wants to do with her life, but that her mom wouldn't understand her.
That Taming Digimon is a lot more respectable than modeling, that she is good at it and that she doesn't need her mom's approval.
She then notices a digital field and runs straight home to change from her school uniform to her regular outfit.
After taking her deck and her D-ark, she asks if Renamon is ready, who appears in her room from the shadows and says always.
She then runs outside again and passes her grandmother in the living room, who wonders that she just has gotten home.
She asks Rika to be back by dinner time, and she replies that she will.

Rika uses a YukiAgumon Frozen Wind card, and Renamon uses this attack in a blast struggle with Allomon's own fire attack.
Rika wonders out loud what Renamon is doing, that this just isn't a stupid little game, and Renamon says that he's to strong and at that moment his fire overpowers her ice and she gets knocked away into a pole and she falls down while he moves in.
Rika demands Renamon to get up and that if she could Digivolve that she would beat him.

Guilmon arrives and uses a Pyro Sphere while Terriermon uses his Terrier Tornado attack against the Allomon, knocking him away from Renamon.
Rika sees Takato and Henry arrive and tells them that this Digimon is hers and for them to go play somewhere else.
Takato is shocked and Henry asks why she has to be so nasty and why she makes her Digimon fight so much anyway.
She answers that they are starting to sound like a broken record, and she uses another card, Hyper Chip.

Renamon gets up and tells the other Digimon that they shouldn't be her and to get out of her way.
She uses the Frozen Wind attack combined with her power up from the Hyper Chip card and completely overpowers Allomon this time.
She loads his data after using her Diamond Storm attack on him.

Rika tells Renamon that they are leaving and Takato stops her wanting to talk.
She tells them that they are little boys and not to try that again, that she and Renamon work alone.
Henry asks if that qualifies as a conversation, and she then leaves.
Impmon then appears on top of a streetlight close by the others, talking to himself what a pathetic gathering of fools the others are.
Muttering that no self respecting Digimon would be a slave to a human, and that if they won't change that they are going to pay, that his plan is on the way.

Later that evening Rika is standing in her backyard close to a pond with Renamon on top of their roof close by.
She asks if Renamon was trying to make her look bad, Renamon responds why she would want to do that as she only wants to make Rika happy.
Rika says that she doesn't get it and what Renamon's problem is, and Renamon tells her that she is just waiting for the right moment.
Rika tells her that she doesn't want to wait for Renamon to Digivolve whenever she feels like it, Renamon apologizes for disappointing her but before she can say more she disappears back to the shadows when she hears Rika's mom coming home.

Later that night while lying in bed, Rika wonders how to make Renamon Digivolve.
That if she doesn't, she will never really be the best.
Meanwhile Renamon is walking along streetpole electricity cables in the city.
Rika thinks that she has to be and that no one can hold her back.

She then flashes back to when she competed and won the Digimon card game tournament and that she is the new Digimon champion.
The commentator asks that it was quite an overwhelming victory and what she did to prepare, and Rika coldly answers that she didn't do anything and that it was easy.

She yells that she can't tame all of them, taht she just wants one strong Digimon, and a blue card appears, the card glows and Renamon is seen in the distance coming closer towards Rika, asking her that she wanted some powerfull.
Before Renamon manages to appear all 3 screens disappear from Rika's room.
Rika mentions that she must be dreaming, then she uses the blue card on her scanner, which then transforms into a blue and white colored D-ark.
It starts to glow and Rika closes her eyes and silently makes a wish for Renamon to be hers and to make her Digivolve and to become a real Digimon Tamer, once she opens her eyes Renamon is now standing in her room and she says that she has been looking for a strong Tamer and that Rika is the one.
Renamon tells her her that it's no accident that they are a team, and that if they share their strengh that they will become unstopable.

The flashback ends and we see Renamon still walking around the city, telling Rika to be patient and that she will definitely Digivolve, but how soon much depend on Rika herself.
Later Renamon is sitting on a telephone wire, thinking to herself that she needs to defeats one strong Digimon and load his data, but that it may not be that simple.
Renamon then is suddenly ambushed by the newcomer, Impmon, telling her that she doesn't look to happy, but what digimon would be when they have to answer to some snotty nosed kid like a pet.

At this exact moment Rika wakes up due to her Digivices signal, and she asks out loud where Renamon isand that she has to get out here now.
But because Renamon is with Impmon, Rika is able to scan Impmon's information with her D-Ark.
She says that there is a new player for the game, and that she's in.

Meanwhile Renamon tells Impmon that she isn't a slave and that Rika is her partner.
Impmon tells her that her partner is not that impressive and that she has Renamon believing that she can't do anything for herself and that it's the most pathetic thing he has ever seen.
He tells her that all the digi-slaves are the same, that they deep down want to be just like him.
He asks her if she is listening and that this is class A material talk.
He goes on and says that he thinks that she's really sad and that it makes him angry to see a good looking digimon like her going to waste, it makes me him want to throw up.
Renamon asks him why he thinks she's sad.
He goes on that she's out there all alone, moping around in the moonlight like a puppy that chewed up a slipper and got tossed out of the house, that she's in serious denial.
He keeps on going that there's a whole other world out there, a couple of them, but if she's happy fetching bones for some human than to be his guest.
Renamon responds that if that's his best material, that he'll need a new writer, and she leaves.
He yells after her where's she even going and that's very rude of her, and if her human has learned her any manners, but Renamon ignores him.
He then mutters that he'll teach her a lesson with tough love as he trows his Badda-Boom attack at her.
The attack surprises Renamon and when she turns back to him, he yells from a distance that she has to quit being stupid to really be free, and to get away from that human immediately.
At that exact moment a Digital field appears in the distance.

Meanwhile at Hypnos Riley tells Yamaki that it's another wild one as she tries to put a tracer lock on it.
Tally tells them that it's bioemerging.

We then see Rika running down the street towards the Digital field, she's wondering if Renamon is already there, thinking that she may be fighting the Impmon she saw earlier.
Once she enters the Digital field she sees that the whole area is covered in large cobwebs.
Renamon then yells for Rika to run, and pushes her to the side before the Dokugumon is able to hit her with her attack.
She asks if Rika is alright and she says that she's fine, and they both turn towards the Dokugumon.
The Dokugumon says to them that she was thinking about what to do for dinner and Renamon tells her to eat dirt.
Rika then scans the Dokugumon's information with her Digivice, and Renamon tells her that she'll better step on the spider Digimon and jumps towards her.
She prepares her Diamond Storm attack, but the web catches her attack and disintegrates it instead.
Dokugumon then uses her Venom Blast attack, trapping Renamon in her web.
Rika tries to run towards her, and Renamon yells at her to get out of here.
Dokugumon then uses her web to trap Rika as well, and jumps towards her while Rika watches in fear.
She screams out of pure fear, and Renamon while still trapped uses her Diamond Storm.
The Dokugumon jumps away and the attack ends up hitting Rika, but it destroys the web that is keeping Rika trapped and leaving her unharmed.
Rika realizes that Renamon did that to safe her.
Dokugumon then turns towards Renamon, and Renamon tells Rika again to get out of here.
She says that she isn't going anywhere, and uses Snimon Twin Sickles attack card.
This transforms Renamon's arms into Snimon's blades, which she uses to free herself, then immediately attacks Dokugumon.
Dokugumon knocks the attack away with her head and jumps towards Renamon biting her entire midsection as she screams in horrible pain.
Rika yels to leave her alone.
The Dokugumon then trows her to the side and tries to attack Rika, but Renamon jumps in front of her to block the attack with her body to protect her.
Rika asks Renamon why she'd do it, and she says because she's her partner, as she collapses.
Rika worriedly catches her and tells her that she's sorry.
Calumon then steps closer asking if it's game over, his headcrest is glowing.
Renamon begs Rika to get away while she can, and Rika tells her not to go away and to not leave her.
Renamon says that she has to and ends up fainting, and Rika yells for her.
At this moment her Digivice starts glowing, while a glow surrounds Renamon as well.
Renamon then Digivolves to Kyubimon, and Rika stares saying that she did it, but how and Kyubimon answers that it was her, that she made her Digivolve.
Dokugumon tries to attack them again but Kyubimon uses her Foxtail Inferno attack.
This causes the webs to catch fire, Kyubimon then jumps after the fleeing Dokugumon and then uses her Dragon Wheel attack and destroys Dokugumon.
Kyubimon then loads the Digimon's data as Rika watches in amazement and the Digital field disappears.

Once back at Rika's side Kyubimon tells Rika if she now understands, and Rika nods enthusiastically and she says that she thinks she does.
She says that she couldn't Digivolve until Rika showed that she really cared about her, and Rika again nods in agreement.
We see Impmon sitting in a tree closeby, commenting that this scene is what makes him sick and jumps away before he loses his lunch.
Rika tells Kyubimon that that was some victory, and she responds that it's not about winning.
She tells her that winning made her stronger, and Kyubimon disagrees and tells her that she has made her stronger and that she wasn't afraid to show how much she cared about her, like a true friend.

--Digimon Tamers Manga breakdown:

Vol.1 Chapter 4

This chapter in the Manga starts with Riley at Hypnos telling Yamaki that she isn't sure what to make of the obnormal Digimon movement in the area and the irregular statistics she's getting.
Yamaki says that perhaps the Digimon war is beginning again.

Then later at night we see Renamon on a telephone wire muttering to herself why she can't Digivolve even if she has collected so much data already.
Impmon appear before her for the first time and calls her another human crony, he then introduces himself.
Renamon asks him what he means about the humans.
He tells her that she might not want to hear it since she likes human kids, even if they rule her life.
Renamon leaves telling him he isn't worth her time.
He tells her not to ignore him and that he is only trying to warn her, but that she'll find out soon enough who she is dealing with.

Meanwhile at Rika's home, we see her thinking of her strategy and that she has followed the fighting manual and that Renamon should have been the one to Digivolve, and not Terriermon.
She says that she's doing everything she has to and that's still not enough.
Renamon the appears and tells her that it's maybe not her time and that she's sorry to worry her.
Rika says that it's fine, and thinks to herself that she thought that Renamon is the strongest Digimon there is.

We then see a flashback that Rika is the D-1 Digimon championship winner.
The announcer says that the last round was explosive and if she has any words to the fans.
She tells them to go home and practice because she could've won in her sleep.
At home her scanner starts glowing and 3 screens with tons of Digimon appeared in her room.
They each want Rika to become their Tamer, but she yells to them to get away from her and that she only wants the best Digimon.
A blue card appears and Renamon steps through one of the screens and says that the Digimon she is looking for is her.

Takato's naration states that Rika was losing a lot of sleep over Renamon's rookie status and that she's been convinced that she would Digivolve had she won enough battles.
He ads in a snide manner that she had told him that he had a lot to learn about Digimon.

Rika's laying in bed awake when suddenly her D-ark starts beeping signaling that another Digimon has shown up.
She calls for Rneamon to go, but she doesn't seem to be in the house.
She runs towards the Digital field anyway and when there she sees that Renamon is already trapped in the Dokugumons webs.
Rika uses a
Snimon Twin Sickles attack card and Renamon frees herself with her now armblades.
Renamon apologizes to Rika and says that she got caught up in things while attacking the Dokugumon.
The Dokugumon defends against the attack and does an attack of her own.
Renamon evades this by jumping up but the Dokugumon attacks Rika instead.
Renamon yells for Rika to watch out.

Takato narates again and says that Digivolving isn't just about winning, and that it has very little to do with it in the first place.
That it's just like life, what does it matter what you're doing unless you really care.
He then says that both Rika and Renamon had some growing up to do.

Renamon then blocks Rika from the attack with her own body acting as a shield.
She collapses and apologizes to Rika for failing her, as Rika is holding her crying.
She tells Renamon to forget the win, and for her to be okay.
Calumon appears with his forehead glowing and Rika's Digivice starts glowing as well as Renamon Digivolves to Kyubimon.
Dokugumon tries to attack them again but Kyubimon uses her Foxtail Inferno attack and defeats her.
Once standing by her side Rika hugs her and says that she likes Kyubimon's tails.

The chapter ends with Takato narating how Rika and Renamon finally got what they wanted, but he isn't talking about the Digivolution.

--Konaka’s notes for Episode 6:

The girl's partner Digimon is difficult to sell in terms of products. The idea of having the Digimon have a strong image (Renamon) was based on how they wanted Ruki to appear.

From the beginning in Takato's dream, the story has conflict. When the story began, he wasn't sure why he wanted the Digimon to be strong. He didn't want them defined at the beginning so it wouldn't be a case of just 'moving them around the setting'. Tamers only has a few writers, so they all put together the characters eventually, but they all seem to fit.

There was a request to show the first encounter between Ruki and Renamon. Genki Yoshimura came up with a plot that surprised even him.

--Konaka Explaining Episode 6:

Rika attends the Kagurazaka Girls school.
It may be close to the Rikkyo campus in terms of design.
The scene is quiet, but you can hear the rumors of the female students. It is said that Rika's mother rarely comes to visit the class.
Rumiko Nonaka, whose face is known as a model (I just couldn't remember the name and searched for it).
Rumiko knows that she is being seen in the mirror of the pencil case.
However, a small mobile melody sounds and he rushes out to the corridor.
Not surprising to Tomehime.
She seems to have a slightly devious personality.
She forgot that I had a work appointment.

Rika's house is also in Kagurazaka, so it's a pretty close down the road school.
It's not that her relationship with her mother is terrible, but ...

A small flashback here.
Rika is thinking about the Digimon card she has in her hand.
Antylamon ...
Rumiko is by no means an insensitive mother, but her interests do not suit Rika.
And when she wants her to stay with her, her mom disappears.
Isn't that lonely?
The school setting and home environment were decided mainly by the producer.

Returning to the current scene, a digital field appears.
Terriermon's Realization is an exception, Digimon normally Realize by drifted up from the light from the ground when a Digital field appears.
Rika runs back.
Change clothes quickly and call out to Renamon.
Rika runs down the corridor, saying she's going.

Grandmother Seiko (I remembered this) , is a little worried.
Rumiko is divorced, but retains the Nonaka's surname. This house is inherited by Seiko Hata from generation to generation.
Ruki puts on her shoes and is asking what their having for dinner?
She says that they'll have deep-fried chicken gizzards.
Guts pose!
The early episode gives us a general overview of the Makino family.
This was an impressive cut in the Tamers as a whole.
Yuka Imai not only plays Renamon, but also Ruki's mother and grandmother.

On the other hand, at Guilmon's Home.
Somehow, four people staring at each other seriously, no, two people + two Digimon.
Rock-paper-scissors!
Look over there, Ha!
Will a four-person system be established?
Guilmon, who can only play paper, get's dizzy. But...
Guilmon's eyes changed as Takato and his friends laughed.
Digimon appeared!

What appeared in front of Rika who rushed into the digital field.
Armor body.
Allomon
Renamon attacks first, a drop kick.
However, his physical power is overwhelming.
Rika, slashes the card YukiAgumon.
The rule is that if you slash the card of the Digimon itself, you can borrow a special move. Therefore, the Digimon of the card is drawn as its symbol, and it is not the Digimon itself that appears for a moment .
Freezing wind !
It holds Allomon's Dino Burst, but...
Gradually weakened.
She get's slammed into the pole.
Rika encourages merciless evolution, but...
Pyro Sphere !
Terrier Tornado.
The cooperation comes naturally to Guilmon and Terriermon.
Don't touch him.
Digimon are meant for fighting.
Card slash. "SLASH !!" plays the instrumental version.
Renamon temporarily revives, like a kind of adrenaline injection.
A way of walking that naturally suits the historical drama line of stand aside.
When the freezing wind is blown more intensely than before.
Allomon freezes and killed with a Diamond Storm.
Loads the data.
If we can get as much data as Allomon, we can expect a considerable power-up ...
Rika goes home after saying that she didn't do anything wrong.

He, Impmon, was watching this from the top of the telephone pole...
This is his first appearance.
It was Genki Yoshimura who decided the tone of Impmon's dialogue.
Part A ends here, but I'll continue for a while.

At night, Rika standing in front of the pond in the garden.
Rika is frustrated by Renamon who doesn't Digivolve.
Renamon looks apologetic.
She blames herself for not being able to live up to Rika's expectations.

In 2021 this relationship seems absurd and doesn't come across properly. It was done to structure the story and how Digimon and humans became partners. He doesn't recall having an in-depth discussion about this with writers and producers. It's different than how Adventure and 02 handled it, but Genki Yoshimura (one of the series composers for 02), wrote it normally in his first episode.

The voice of Rumiko coming home.
Indeed here it might have been a different recording later (because it's off) is, Mr. Imai most, three-party calibration of easy ter main line had been acting divided by (everyone take to put the voice).
Renamon is just like a shinobi, and is lost in the darkness.
Rika begins to remember her encounter with Renamon.

When she was winning the card battle.
It's on the stage of the award ceremony, but it's uncomfortable for Rika.
The host of the event Ruki won was Volcano Ota. Although in the show there was a completely different build, face, and voice. Ota really did this kind of thing when he worked for Bandai.
In 2018 he was surprised/pleased to see that Mr. Ota now has a healthy and slim figure.

Rika first met Renamon almost as if she were a yokai in the Heian period.

Rika lies down next to the card reader as if winning the medal of the card battle is not worth it.
Frustration that accumulates.
When she lies down, at that moment, the doors close tightly...
Transformed into a frightening space.
And the voice from the bottom of hell.
Three-sided multi-large virtual screens appear.
When the strongest Digimon is suitable for the strongest tamer, pridefull Digimon extend their arms towards Rika.
For some reason, evolution is hampered in today's digital world.
But there is a certain route to Digivolve.
That was to get a human tamer.
Start crawling from the virtual world to this side.
Rika was scared, but...
She shouts that all she wants is the strongest Digimon.
Then...
Renamon walks toward her while the other Digimon are retreating.
Rika is aware of that.
Yes, with Renamon ...
Then one of the cards turns into a blue card.
A card reader that has become D-Ark.
When she picks it up, a flash of light flashes.
A depiction that cannot be overlooked here and strong thoughts.
Then...
Renamon floating about several tens of centimeters of the ground.
Slowly... gets down on the tatami mat of the real world.
The timing when Renamon gets off is the perfect production.
This is the first time Atsutoshi Umezawa directed for Tamers, but he will eventually be the director who led Tamers to the finish line. [on top of other episodes, Umezawa directed the final 2 episodes.]
The two of them, Rika and Renamon, had such a fateful encounter.

Renamon believes that the only way to evolve as Rika expects is to defeat a strong Digimon .
When she was sitting on the electric wire and thinking about it, she heard a teasing voice.
Impmon approaches Renamon.
It is said that Digimon who are with humans are pets.
Is it that a Digimon can't do anything alone ?

D-Ark shines light, and Rika wakes up when she senses the existence of a Digimon.
Analyze with Renamon Eye.
She know it's Impmon, but even if she calls Renamon, she's not here.
Renamon asks if he has a partner.
Do you someone free without a tamer? Impmon asks.
Awkward pauze...
At first, Renamon ignores Impmon, who keeps saying that he doesn't want to be with humans.
She descends to the ground and walks away.
Impmon says that pitiful Digimon irritate him.
He shoots at Renamon.
It's a technique that doesn't do much harm, but...
Impmon disappears while ridiculing her.
But farther away, a pillar of light appears, which is a precursor to the opening of the digital field again.

It was also recognized in Hypnos.
Yamaki is beginning to think that if it happens so often, it will be necessary to take drastic measures.

Where is Renamon?
However, Rika runs.
There are many slopes from Kagurazaka to Shinjuku.
Renamon must be here...
However, there were countless spider webs inside the digital field.
Renamon's voice, Rika, run away!
An attack was about to be made on Rika.
But...
She's rescued and held.
Renamon stands up to protect Rika.
Renamon Eye analyzes Dokugumon.
A Diamond Storm is released, but Dokugumon's thread attack nullifies it.
Furthermore...
Renamon is attacked by a poisonous gas called Sting Operation.
A thread is also trown on Rika.
Rika who can't move, she's scared.
The most terrifying appearance of any Digimon.
A cry in Rika's heart.
Renamon, help me!
Renamon crushes the web with her own strenght.
Shoots a Diamond Storm towards Rika.
Rika is frightened, but it's to cut the thread that captured Rika.
Rika, Renamon screams for her to escape now.
Renamon was still tied by her lower body with the web.
Rika, I can't do that!
Card slash! Instrument version. "Iron blade"
Renamon obtains the ability of Snimon, the Shadow Sickle also trying to topple Dokugumon...
She fails and gets bitten.
Renamon suffers fatal damage.
This time, Rika holds Renamon... but Renamon has already collapsed.
Why is Renamon?
Renamon, who is breathless, is just a partner.
Calumon approaching, with a slapstick sense.
Renamon closes her eyes, saying, "Rika hurry, and run away."
Rika who shouts out loud for Renamon...
D-Ark flashes.
Renamon opens her eyes...
Digivolution begins.
Following Terriermon, Renamon's evolution bank is based on Sushio.
Kyubimon!
The lyrics in EVO fit the evolution to Kyubimon, and Tamers in general. Evolution isn't just based on the Digimon getting stronger. It's based on the human partners growing.
Rika is stunned by the Digivolution.
Calumon is innocently pleased.
Foxtail Inferno !
It burns all the webs.
Dragon Wheel !
Literally, it becomes a dragon and crushes Dokugumon.
Kyubimon loads the data.

After the battle-there is plenty of lingering sound.
She has Digivolved...
Rika and Kyubimon, Rika nods to Kyubimon's words that it is the Digivolution they wished for.
Two people.
After all, Digimon have a personality, at least in the real world.
He was looking down on the scene unpleasantly from above...
Impmon.
Well, I'll leave before I have to trow up.
Kyubimon replies that she is Rika's partner, who said she helped.
She brings her hand closer to Kyubimon's face, but it's hard to touch her.
Partner?
It is this hesitation from the words that are not immediately accepted by Rika.
However, Kyubimon asks if she can understand what she means.
Then, Rika strokes Kyubimon's cheek.
Kyubimon who closes her eyes comfortably.
I understand... I understand a little.

Even if it wasn't a cliffhanger, the moment when it flowed into the ending was a pleasant end.
This episode doesn't fully establish the relationship Ruki and Renamon will have, but it does build the basic relationship of trust.
He states his innocence once again, as he never asked for the horror-like scenes involving Renamon in the episode. He also asks you to remember that it was Genki Yoshimura who wrote the Pinocchimon episode [of Adventure].

--My opinion:

Well that was it for episode 6.
We also have the debut for the epic jazzy instrumental version of Card Slash during the Allomon fight, this ost is unfortunatly unnamed just like the jazz version EVO ost in Episode 3.

Really liked this episode, not only did we get Rika's backstory on how she became a Tamer, but we also get introduced to the best Digimon in the show, Impmon XD
It is very funny how different they went with his dialogue between the two versions.
I really liked the kinda gangster/ punk route they did in the English version with his character, also love the Brooklyn accent ( Whoever came up with that was a true genius, also Badda-Boom as his main attack name, perfect )

It also actually fits the flirty dialogue they went with when he was speaking to Renamon ( as he only judged her on her appearance and nothing else, similar to how Rika judged her only on her strenght) and how low he thought of Rika as a human, because in the end both Renamon and Rika were the only ones he could really depend on, it shows that appearance is only skin deep, and how much all 3 of them have grown throught the series.

The Japanese version meanwhile doesn't do this, instead Impmon is more seriously talking about how Digimon shouldn't be slaves to humans and that they should be free to do whatever they want.
This version in hindsight insinuates more on Impmon's own past with humans and that he is trying to warn the other Digimon of how awefull they can be, of course he doesn't succeed and he ends up feeling even more lonely and jelous from the relationship the other Digimon have with their Tamers. But more on that in the later episodes :D

As for Rika's entire story in this episode, it couldn't have been handled better in my opinion, with her straining relationship with her working mother ( which is probably very relatable for many people who have watched this series ) to her relationship with her partner Renamon ( who she uses both as a means to proof that she is the very best at something, and as a tool to show that she can so things on her own just fine )
The ending is especially good since while she learned that there is more to growing ( both Digivolution and character growth ) than just winning battles and being the very best, it shows that while she is happy that she still has a long way to go.

As for Renamon, she is pretty much the other side of the same coin, in the Japanese version especially, she uses Rika as a means to being able to Digivolve and becoming strong enough to survive. But she learns that being the strongest isn't what makes her grow as her own person, but believing and caring about her partner does. She's also shown as a very loyal person that despite her earlier personal interest, that the time she has already spend with Rika she really started to care for her, even sacrificing her very own life for her. And the fact that Rika showed that she cares for her too is what ended up being the key for her Digivolution.

Anyway that was it for this breakdown, and don't forget if you have any questions feel free to ask.

See ya all next time.
